We Love to Read!

posted Feb 7, 2012 12:21 PM by Joshua Lindquist

Dear Families,

What better way to spend these cold winter nights than to cozy up with a mug of cocoa and a good book? February is I Love to Read month, and we have many fun activities planned for the children here at Lincoln. Be sure to note the events listed in the side bar and watch your child’s backpack for more information about upcoming events.

This year’s theme for I Love to Read month is Wheeling Through Books. Students (and their families!) are encouraged to read as much as possible during I Love to Read month. This year, we have a very special opportunity provided by Lincoln PTSA, Horace Mann, and Ron Bauer Insurance - a bike giveaway! Each student that has met his/her grade level’s reading goal will have a chance to win a new bike! One student from each grade level will win – that’s 6 new, free bikes!  Plus, the PTSA will be providing each winner with a $25 gift certificate to Pap’s Sporting Goods to purchase a new helmet. Our students and staff are so excited about this opportunity, and there is much excitement surrounding the new bikes that are appearing in the media center!

Sometimes we hear people ask: Why is reading important?  Here are just a few answers to that question:

·       Reading is fundamental to function in today’s society.
·       Reading is an important skill in finding a good job.
·       Reading is important because it develops the mind.
·       Reading helps us discover new information.
·       Reading develops the imagination.
·       Reading is fundamental in helping one to develop a good self-image.
·       Reading helps us better understand words and write better.

Finally, why is reading important? Reading is important because words — spoken and written – are the building blocks of life.
Let’s help our children become great readers and writers! On the back side of this sheet, you will find a calendar of simple, fun activities that you can do with your child to help get them reading every day in February.

READ, READ, READ, and WRITE, WRITE, WRITE.

Happy Reading! And happy I Love to Read month!

Welcome Letter

Dear Families:

Welcome! On behalf of the Little Falls School District, we would like to welcome you to Lincoln Elementary School.  It is a real pleasure to be here with you and your child to continue in the tradition of strong academic excellence.  We believe Lincoln Elementary offers your child the best academic opportunity available to help prepare and succeed in a challenging world.  This school year, we continue to have the latest in technology with SMART Boards in all classrooms for interactive learning, iPads for all 5th graders and iPod Touch for grades K-4.  With this technology, we will be expanding the scope of learning in classrooms and helping children succeed to new and greater achievement levels.

At Lincoln Elementary, our commitment is to children.  Your child will receive the best possible education because their success is our business!  We have a vibrant staff of caring individuals who will nurture your child in sound educational practices, providing the individualization and direction that each student needs.  It is our goal that each child meets his/her learning potential in every environment and situation.

Please take some time to read the handbook.  It contains helpful information on school policies and procedures.  It also contains a school calendar of important events.  After reading and sharing this information with your child, we hope you will keep this handbook link bookmarked for future reference throughout the school year.

We all want to thank you for selecting Lincoln Elementary School.  Please join us as partners in your child’s education to ensure that your child’s experience is filled with much joy and success.

The staff and I look forward to an exciting year with you and your child.  Together we will make this a memorable and successful school year.

Sincerely,

Maxine Strege, Ph.D.
