Little Falls Community Schools is closely monitoring the spread of the Coronavirus, COVID-19, as it affects the nation and our region. Please note that experts are reminding the public not to panic. While a couple of schools on the west coast have been closed, this has been due to a verified cases of COVID-19. There is no recommendation from federal or state education authorities to close schools that have not been directly impacted by the virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a website that brings together key information for the public on COVID-19.
Locally, the Minnesota Department of Health as created a site with specific information and guidance for schools.
Here are three tips shared by our district nurse, Johanna Weber, that each one of us can do to reduce the spread of respiratory illness:
- Practice frequent hand hygiene. This includes washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using an alcohol based sanitizer. Be sure to always wash your hands after blowing your nose, sneezing, or coughing.
- Cover your cough. Cough or sneeze into your elbow. Then wash your hands as mentioned above.
- Stay home if you are ill. Do not expose others to illness. Stay home if you have a fever greater than 100°F, and remain at home for 24 hours after your fever is gone without the use fever reducing medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
The district is following the guidance of the Minnesota Department of Health very closely and will take further appropriate action should anything change.
